BP Settlement News: BP is trying to stop the Settlement Claims Pay-outs
Justice is prevailing for the residents and business entrepreneurs in the DeepWater Horizon; BP is giving in to the pressure of having to settle all the affected individuals and business establishments who have presented their cases in court in the pursuit of a settlement. What BP is currently undergoing can only be described as the last kicks of a dying horse; this led them to file an injunction to freeze all the BP settlement pay-outs. Their presentment of feeble evidence notwithstanding, Judge Barbier heroically ruled against BP’s efforts to halt their payments to the deranged residents of DeepWater Horizon; call it a voice of purpose by cushioning the public against manipulation by BP. The BP settlement saga can however be termed as treading the right path and hope is high for the affected residents, all owed to the District Judge’s ruling. You will be intrigued to learn that BP has filed severally against paying out the settlements but to no avail; clearly, they are feeling the weight of having to compensate all the DeepWater Horizon residents who have filed against them. They made their bed so why not comfortably lie in it?
Grounds on Which BP Sought to Revoke the BP Settlement Pay-outs
The oil giant is laying blame on the claims administrator’s office, Patrick Juneau. Their bond of contention with the office is that corruption had crept in affected the calculations and hence payment of the claims. This is only their version of the story however; another way of looking at their injunction would be their ever swelling BP settlement bill. It currently stands at a staggering 7.8 billion dollars, an amount expected to double with the current state of affairs. Even in an organization as large as BP, this is quite a hefty amount. Their injunction lacked in evidence as Judge Barbier pointed out on July 19th 2013.
The BP oil legal team had banked their accusation on Ms Reitano and Mr. Slutton (a couple), both working for the claims administrator’s office. Their accusations lacked in consistency and the required evidence-backing, a scenario which compelled Judge Barbier to deny their application to freeze all the pending BP settlement claims. “I can’t grant an injunction based on suspicion, innuendo and beliefs” were his exact words; a well-informed statement if I may. Though Mr. Slutton resigned and his companion, Ms Reitano, relieved off her duties pending an investigation, BP’s hopes of salvaging their billions is already a lost course. It is expected that they will continue fronting their agenda but they might as well let it rest at that.
Claimants Should Not Lose Sight of their Pending BP Settlement Claims
If you are a claimant, strictly adhere to the championing of your rights; your compensation is still on track as has been characterized by this landmark ruling made by a respected District Judge. The efforts being made by the oil giant to deny you your legitimate BP settlement is their way of caving in. An action necessitates a reaction only that in their case, their reactions are just strengthening the claimants’ cases without them even realizing. Your BP settlement claim is now an almost done deal.
